Bespoke
A bespoke shirt centres around three key elements; the fit, the crafting and the fabric, achieved by meticulously understanding a client and their individual requirements.
The customisation aspects are infinite, with Wil personally guiding clients throughout the process in a structured approach, making it smooth and enjoyable, without the feeling of being overwhelmed.
The Bespoke process includes several stages:
Initial Consultation
Your personal paper pattern is cut
1st Fitting
2nd Fitting
Wearable trial “test” shirt
Final fitting
Initial Consultation
At least 30 body measurements are recorded, with a posture assessment to ensure your paper pattern is hand drafted specific to your anatomy. In the initial order a bespoke collar pattern is created in your own style proportionate to your face, neck and body. A discussion about your wardrobe, personal style and routine are crucial, so the shirts are crafted to compliment your personal preference and clothing (whether formal to casual).
Your personal paper pattern is cut
Wil personally hand cuts your own personal paper pattern using his unique drafting formula. A fitting shirt is made from trial fabric.
1st Fitting
This fitting is critical for Wil the cutter, to ensure the balance and proportions of the shirt are correct to your body structure and anatomy. Style aspects of the shirt are thoroughly reviewed and discussed to ensure all is moving in the right direction, ready for the next appointment
2nd Fitting
Since previously visiting your paper pattern has been altered and updated with another trial shirt ready for fitting. Each fit, and style aspect is finely tuned, with construction aspects confirmed ready for the creation of your wearable trial “test” shirt. Fabrics are thoroughly discussed, ready for confirmation at the final appointment.
Wearable trial “test” shirt
You will receive a wearable trial “test” shirt via courier ready for you to wear and launder. This shirt is made identical in style to that you expect to receive as your final shirts’ so you have the chance to get a true feel for the fit and style before confirming your order.
Final fitting
After you had a chance to test the wearable trial shirt in your daily routine, you’re ready for the final fitting. Once the fabrics, styling and finishing details, such as level of handwork, buttons type, hand embroidery are confirmed, your order is processed ready for Wil’s team to start meticulously crafting your bespoke hand sewn shirts.
The initial bespoke shirt order has a minimum order quantity of 4 dress shirts of the same style, with the opportunity to define your own unique collar style. The process is highly-time consuming and comprehensive, so this process has been perfected to ensure the best outcome for the client.
Once the initial order is complete it’s typical for clients to develop their shirt wardrobe with Wil, from creating variations and alternate collar styles for their dress shirts, to choosing and developing new shirt models to complement their lifestyle and personal style.
All shirts are hand crafted in my own workshop enabling methodical control over the entire making process. Each shirt takes between 20 and 50 hours to cut and sew (depending on the level of hand work, fabric type, pattern and composition), excluding the pattern cutting, fittings, order processing and quality controlling.
All fabric patterns such as a stripe, check and print are cut for full pattern matching; sewn by single needle on machine and finished with couture hand sewing; using only the highest graded fibres of fabrics and flawless mother of pearl buttons. These are just a few of the wider known shirt features, with many others unique and some a secret to the house.
